OSNN Orchid and Ice Cream Social
On September 3, 2009, we have a special ‘social’ program for members and guests. This month, the OSNN will kick things off with an ice cream treat for all who attend. For this meeting, our members who have too many (dozens, hundreds?) plants (I know, you can NEVER have too many orchids…) are encouraged (pretty please!) to donate a few extras for the raffle table. These can be divisions of plants that have grown well for you, plants that would grow better under different conditions, seedlings, or just things you want to clear out to make more space for a few new plants before our next raffle! Of course, those members who do not have an overabundance of plants should not bring a donation. Instead, we ask your help by supporting sales of raffle tickets. It is important for our society to save some expenses and generate some funds since some of our usual sources of revenue (Moana Show, Home Show) fell considerably short this year due to the slow economy (but our annual auction was fantastic!). Before the raffle, Ramon and our many other expert growers will chat about each of the raffle donation plants, one by one, to highlight important features of the plants, information regarding their natural history, stories and anecdotes, and how best to grow them in the Reno area. I can’t think of a better evening than eating ice cream and getting to know other members a bit better, while hearing about all of the plants I could win with my raffle tickets… If you have a desert that you know will go well with ice cream, remember you get a bonus raffle ticket if you bring enough to share. I regret that I will miss this meeting due to business travel, it will prove to be a fun and fund raising affair!
